Speech - Ethnic Business Awards, Adelaide
6 November 2015

Christopher Pyne:…Tracey, to you and to my parliamentary colleagues that have all been recognized several times now. Dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps, ladies and gentlemen thank you very much for the opportunity to be here present again at the Ethnic Business Awards. I was saying to the people at my table that every Australian should get the chance to look at the inspiring videos about businesses that we’ve seen tonight. This has come along at a great time these awards because the new Prime Minister is very optimistic, he wants to talk about the future of Australia and the things that we can do to make a difference to our economy, creating jobs and growth and every one of the businesses that we’ve heard about tonight is a future forward looking optimistic can-do organization. The fact that they are ethnic businesses or indigenous businesses is really beside the point.

If we could bottle the extraordinary inspirational stories that we’ve heard tonight whether they’re from Russia, Lebanon, Greece, Australia, Japan, et cetera and then expand that across Australia, that is the message of the Government whether it’s Labor or Liberal governments, state or federal, want all our business community to hear. We can do amazing things in this country. We can make our country even greater than it already is and every time I come to the Ethnic Business Awards- because I’m a great friend of Joseph and Angela Assaf, I walk away thinking being a representative of the people, being a cabinet minister gives me the chance to allow all of those stories to be repeated again and again across Australia.

So thank you for having me here tonight and congratulations to all the finalists and the ones that we’re about to hear who are the winners. Thank you very much.
