Turnbull Government gets more runs on the board

18 Aug 2017 Media release

In the first two sitting weeks of this session the Turnbull Government has continued to make decisions and pass laws in the best interests of all Australians.

In just two sitting weeks, the Turnbull Government has:

  • Passed laws to level the playing field for small businesses, enabling them to better compete against big businesses who have substantial market power. Labor voted against these changes.
  • Passed laws to ban secret payments between unions and big business. In the past, millions of dollars of dodgy payments changed hands in exchange for unions selling workers’ pay and conditions down the river. Labor voted against these changes.
  • Passed reforms to online gambling to ensure that children are protected from illegal online gambling sites.
  • Introduced legislation to ensure the National Disability Insurance scheme is fully funded and fully paid for. Once fully rolled out the Disability Insurance Scheme will benefit 460,000 Australians.
  • Introduced stronger laws to crack down on money laundering and the funding of terrorism.
