Turnbull Government delivering on election promises

At the end of the third sitting week of 2017, the Turnbull Government is continuing to deliver on its commitments made to the Australian people at the last election.

The passage through the House of Representatives of the Omnibus Savings and Child Care Reform Bill, the NDIS Savings Fund Special Account Bill and the Farm Household Support Amendment Bill are all part of the government's agenda to provide more opportunities and reduce cost of living pressures for all Australians.

After two days of debate in the House, Minister Pyne said the passage of the Omnibus Savings and Child Care Reform Bill is consistent with the government's commitment to a simpler, more affordable childcare system.

"The Turnbull Government's reforms to childcare will encourage more than 230,000 families to increase their involvement in paid employment and provide an additional two weeks of parental leave to almost 100,000 low-income mothers each year”, Minister Pyne said.

The passage of the NDIS Savings Fund Special Account Bill highlights that the Turnbull Government is absolutely committed to the NDIS and will fill Labor’s funding gap to ensure that the 460,000 Australians living with disability as well as their families and carers have the support they need.

The Farm Household Support Amendment Bill demonstrates the Coalition's willingness to take action on particular cost of living pressures that exist in rural and regional Australia and the bill assists farmers in financial hardship by removing unnecessary waiting periods once they have been approved for payment of farm household allowance.

The introduction of the Protecting Vulnerable Workers Bill delivers on an election commitment to ensure workers are protected from exploitative and unfair practices in the workplace.

"The new laws will help deter, catch and punish unscrupulous bosses and protect responsible employers," Mr Pyne said.

"The Leader of the Opposition is a hypocrite who says one thing before an election only to back flip when under pressure from his bosses in the union movement.

"The Turnbull Government will deliver much needed reforms to childcare, properly fund the NDIS, provide assistance to hardworking Australians struggling with the cost of living, and protect vulnerable workers. This government will deliver on the promises we made to the Australian people," he said.
