Turnbull Government continues to deliver for all Australians

15 Sep 2017 Media release

During the last two sitting weeks in the House of Representatives, the Turnbull Government has again continued to make decisions and pass important laws that will deliver for all Australians.

This week alone the Turnbull Government has:

  • Seen strong jobs data - there are now 325,600 more Australians in jobs than just 12 months ago.
  • Strengthened our national security laws to ensure our telecommunications networks are protected from espionage, sabotage and foreign interference.
  • Brought into force laws that ban corrupting secret payments between employers and unions.
  • Introduced laws into Parliament to ensure paedophiles serve mandatory jail terms and stay behind bars for longer.
  • Taken ministerial action to ensure Australia's historic monuments are protected.
  • Strengthened No Jab, No Pay rules to ensure that more children and the wider community are protected from preventable diseases like whooping cough. 210,000 extra families have already had their children vaccinated as a result of our policy.
  • Passed changes to Australia's insolvency laws that will help businesses be more innovative and competitive.
  • And finally after debates raging back to the 1980's the government has secured key changes to media laws, which will protect local journalism jobs and secure media diversity.

Leader of the House of Representatives, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP said the Turnbull government was getting on with the job of representing every single Australian despite the efforts of the Labor Party trying to distract the public with timewasting tactics.

“Labor has again proven it’s completely and utterly unfit to run the country, wasting at least 18 hours this year on attempts to suspend debate in the House of Representatives for wasteful political point scoring,” Minister Pyne said.

In stark contrast, every single decision the Coalition Government makes is Canberra is focussed solely on issues that everyday Australians are facing out there in the here in now; energy prices, creating jobs, national security and boosting investment, just to name a few.”
