Thomson must explain to the Parliament

08 Sep 2011 Media release

In a statement this morning the Member for Dobell, Craig Thomson committed himself to making a ‘comprehensive statement’ on the allegations that surround him in the near future.

“The Coalition is willing to grant Mr Thomson that opportunity in the Parliament on Monday,” said Christopher Pyne, Manager of Opposition Business.

“The Coalition has called on Mr Thomson to explain himself in the Parliament on four separate occasions. The Government has used every trick in the book to shut down debate on this issue even though a clear majority of the House of Representatives supported the call for Mr Thomson to make a statement,” Mr Pyne said.

“In the interests of transparency and accountability it seems entirely appropriate that Mr Thomson’s statement be made in the Australian Parliament at the first opportunity.

“I’m sure all Australians will be interested in hearing a full account of this matter,” Mr Pyne said.
