The Turnbull Government continues to deliver for families

Another week of parliamentary sittings saw the Turnbull Government deliver a package of measures that make child care more affordable, accessible and fairer along with the introduction of important legislation to end union corruption and the passage of laws to combat multinational tax avoidance.

The Leader of the House, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, said the passage through the Parliament of the Jobs for Families Childcare Package Bill, which will benefit around one million families, was critical to the Coalition’s plan to ease cost of living pressures on families.

“Every week in Parliament, the Turnbull Government is doing the hard work to deliver on the commitments we made to Australians at the last election, especially our commitment to reduce cost of living pressures. Practical and much overdue reform to childcare and early learning are central to that plan,” Mr Pyne said.

The Prime Minister also introduced legislation to the House this week to ban secret, corrupting payments between businesses and unions. The Corrupting Benefits Bill is critical to restoring integrity and fairness to workplaces. It will outlaw deals such as that between Cleanevent and the AWU in Victoria which saw Cleanevent pay $75,000 to Bill Shorten’s AWU to maintain an enterprise agreement that paid cleaning workers well below award rates and stripped them of penalty rates.

“Bill Shorten and the Labor Party must support the Corrupting Benefits Bill. To do otherwise would signal their ongoing support for corruption in the union movement”, said Mr Pyne.

This week also saw the passage through the House of Representatives of the National Rural Health Commissioner Bill and the introduction of the Australian Immunisation Register Bill: important public health reforms that will benefit all Australians, especially in Rural and Regional Australia.
