Sydney Industry focusses on Submarines

The second Submarine Industry day is being held today at the NationalMaritimeMuseum in Sydney where representatives from the Future Submarine Program will brief Australian industry on opportunities available in the Program.

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, said this engagement with Defence industry demonstrates the commitment to maximising Australian industry involvement in the Future Submarine Program.

“Australian Industry involvement is central to realising our objective of developing a sovereign submarine capability for the nation,” Minister Pyne said.

“The Future Submarine Industry briefings are providing valuable opportunities for Australian companies to understand how they can become involved in supporting this Australia’s Future Submarine Program.

“Briefings will be provided by the Department of Defence, DCNS, Australia’s international partner for the design of the 12 future submarines, and Lockheed Martin Australia, the Combat Systems Integrator.

“This builds on the successes of the first industry day held in Adelaide in November last year which was attended by more than 450 representatives from Australian industry, Research and Development organisations and educational institutions.”

Feedback from the Submarine Industry Day held in Adelaide has been overwhelmingly positive with attendees commenting on the benefit of the briefings which included information on the timeline and progress of the Future Submarine Program.

Minister Pyne said “an Australian submarine build is expected to generate an annual average of around 2,800 jobs”
