16 Jun 2015 Media release

More than 100 organisations, individuals and peak bodies have had their say on Australia’s third largest export industry via submissions on the Draft National Strategy for International Education.

The feedback covers all aspects of international education across the sectors and is an important step in developing a coordinated national strategy.

Minister for Education and Training, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, thanked contributors from education, business and the community for taking the time to provide feedback.

“I’m keen to listen to what the international education community has to say on this, given that we are talking about one of our most valuable resources, which brings vast benefits to Australia’s economy, jobs and our relationships in the region,” Mr Pyne said.

“We welcome fresh perspectives and new ideas about international education that will further strengthen Australia as a world leader and a pacesetter in international education.”

Minister Pyne will convene a roundtable on international education at Parliament House on Thursday, 18 June 2015. It will involve the Ministers for foreign affairs, trade, industry and science, immigration and vocational education and training.

“The roundtable will be the first ever on international education, bringing together representatives from institutions, businesses, students and the wider community, as well as governments at all levels,” Mr Pyne said.

“Together with the written submissions, the roundtables will gather information and ideas to ensure the final national strategy truly represents a shared national vision.”
