Retirement of Dr Andrew Southcott

As the Senior South Australian Federal Liberal I wish to acknowledge the service of Dr Andrew Southcott to his electorate of Boothby, to our great state of South Australia and to our country.

Andrew’s decision to retire at the next election will mean the Liberal Party of South Australia will be missing someone I consider to be a friend and colleague who has achieved many things for both his local community and our state.

Dr Andrew Southcott first won the seat of Boothby in 1996, beginning a two decade career and winning seven elections, an extraordinary achievement by any measure. Serving as a Member of Parliament is a great honour and Andrew has worked tirelessly for his electorate over his time in office with great capacity, care and focus.

It was always his ability to deliver locally that made him so highly regarded in his electorate. On the national stage, Andrew has always been a great contributor and a strong advocate for South Australia.

In politics it is rare for a member of parliament to get to decide when it is time to leave. Andrew has chosen to depart at this time, showing the same dignity and respect for the party and his constituents that has been the hallmark of his career.

I wish him and his family all the best for the future.
