Pyne urges students to reach out to the world

Media release Australian tertiary students will have the chance to reach out to the world in 2016 with the latest round of the Australian Government’s Endeavour Mobility Grants opening today.
Each year the Australian Government supports undergraduate, postgraduate and vocational education and training (VET) students to have an international study experience that contributes to their Australian qualification through Endeavour Mobility Grants.
Minister for Education and Training, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, said the grants give students the chance to strengthen their global knowledge and experience by immersing themselves in the academic and social cultures of other regions.
“Whether it’s through short-term study, practicums, clinical placements, internships, or volunteer projects, we are committed to giving our students the chance to excel by building on their knowledge overseas,” Mr Pyne said.
“Semester exchange is also available, which would allow Australian higher education providers to help outgoing students – as well as incoming international students – enjoy an overseas study experience as part of their degree.
“We saw through new figures released last month that our international education sector is booming with ever increasing numbers of overseas students choosing Australia as their study destination.”
Around $8.3 million of Australian Government funding is available to support at least 2500 grants in the 2016 round of Endeavour Mobility Grants, including short-term grants, semester grants and language support grants.
Mr Pyne said the Endeavour Mobility Grants complement the Australian Government’s $100 million New Colombo Plan by supporting Australian students to study outside the region. The 2016 round of the New Colombo Plan opened on 2 April 2015.
“The 2016 round of the New Colombo Plan will offer some 4750 mobility grants to Australian undergraduate students to live, study and work in the Asia-Pacific,” Mr Pyne said.
“The Endeavour Mobility Grants and the New Colombo Plan are important parts of the Government’s strategy for providing links to the rest of the world through international education.
“Our Draft National Strategy for International Education, released last month, sets a detailed course for sustainable and continued growth in Australia’s world-class education system, including the mobility of Australian and overseas students.”
