Principals Email Outrage at Government Waste
School Principals' outrage at the waste and mismanagement in the Government's school halls debacle has been revealed today in emails leaked to media outlets, according to Shadow Education Minister Christopher Pyne.
"These Principals have seen the waste and mismanagement in this program first hand, and are furious. The BER delivers no value for money to students, parents, or school communities," said Mr Pyne.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars are being paid to State Government appointed contractors. Quotes are being inflated beyond all reasonable levels. School communities are being regularly sidelined as faceless bureaucrats dictate what will happen in their schools.
It is no wonder that Principals have labeled the program the 'Bloody Evil Revolution.
The Auditor General is currently examining this program. If the Government allow him unfettered access, he will find a very rich vein of waste and mismanagement, which is typical of this Labor Government.
Julia Gillard cancelled the Investing In Our Schools program when she came to power. That was a more modest infrastructure and maintenance program, but it got much more bang for the buck by allowing school communities to spend the funds wherever they were needed.
Julia Gillard also cancelled the Even Start tuition vouchers program, which gave a $700 tuition voucher to parents of children who had done poorly in their Literacy and Numeracy tests. This program directly empowered parents and early research showed a 98% improvement rate before it was cancelled.
It is clear that this Minister has a set against programs designed at empowering parents and local communities, and prefers giving money to state education department bureaucrats. We have now seen the waste and mismanagement that naturally follows.
Australia deserves better than this part-time Education Minister.
