PM must call police to investigate leak crisis
The Prime Minister’s office has breached long established security protocols and released sensitive information that could have led to the Prime Minister or the Leader of the Opposition being seriously injured, all for the sake of grubby politics.
The Prime Minister must reclaim control over her own office by immediately referring this matter to the Australian Federal Police so they can commence a full investigation.
The AFP investigation must establish who was given this information and for what purpose, did Prime Ministerial staff contact or attempt to contact other parties or individuals to pass on the information, why was the Leader of the Opposition's statement falsely reported and who else was involved in either the Prime Minister's Office or any other office of the Labor Party.
The inquiry should be conducted by the AFP given it involved the leaking of sensitive information that placed the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition at personal risk.
As it originated in the Prime Minister's Office we expect the Prime Minister would want to get to the bottom of all the facts surrounding this tawdry matter.
There is a stench at the centre of this government that places grubby deals, dirty tricks, a tainted MP and its own political survival ahead of addressing the day to day concerns of the Australian people.
Rather than being unhealthily obsessed with destroying Tony Abbott, the Labor Party should be obsessed with job security, border security and the rising cost of living.
Until a full investigation occurs the Prime Minister cannot depend on her own office to keep sensitive information confidential or even act to safeguard her own personal security.
