New website to drive high education quality and student choice

Media release Students can now compare the quality of teaching and learning in higher education institutions and study areas around Australia, thanks to an innovative new website.
Minister for Education and Training, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today launched the Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching — or QILT — website to offer independent information to students.
“QILT will help students and their families make informed choices about higher education options, bringing together survey data from all Australian universities about students’ experiences and graduate job outcomes,” Mr Pyne said.
“The easy to use website lets students compare institutions and study areas based on the results of thousands of surveys completed by current and former students.
“Importantly, new results will continue to be added over time ensuring the information available through QILT remains relevant and current,” he said.
The surveys are based on questions about students’ overall experience at university. There is also information about graduate salaries, and employment outcomes. Users can search by study areas and institutions, and do comparisons, including:
- overall satisfaction of current students, and recent graduates
- rates of students moving into full-time employment after graduation, and
- the median salary received by recent graduates.
“Our Government is committed to creating a world-class education system that is competitive and high quality so that students get the best results,” Mr Pyne said.
“I would like to thank Professor Ian O’Connor, Vice-Chancellor and President of Griffith University, and Chair of the QILT Working Group, for his leadership in developing QILT,” he said.
Future releases on the website will include surveys of employer satisfaction with their graduate employees.
