MySchool improvements better for parents and schools

22 Mar 2015 Media release

Minister for Education and Training, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, has announced planned improvements to the My School website that will make it more user friendly for parents, giving them better access to timely and relevant information about schools.

The Australian Government has today released the Review of the My School website and the Australian Government’s response to the review Making My School better.

“The Australian Government is committed to My School as a valuable resource for schools and parents,” Mr Pyne said.

My School is the only place where you can find nationally consistent information on every school in Australia and that is why we established a review of the site to see how it could be made even better.”

Mr Pyne said the My School website was recently updated with improved school attendance data and further enhancements are being developed.

Improvements to be put forward at the next meeting of state and territory education ministers include:

  • Making the website smart phone and tablet friendly
  • Making the site easier to use and understand
  • More user choice on comparing schools
  • Delivering more data other than literacy and numeracy on schools, including allowing schools to add data
  • Increasing the focus on student progress
  • Better access for researchers
  • Real time updates of information

“We want to make the site even easier to use and understand, giving parents more options for comparing different schools, and providing a greater focus on students’ progress,” Mr Pyne said.

“Over half of the population use their smart phone or tablet to access the internet, which is why we need to make My School mobile friendly.”

The website will also provide further details about schools for families to consider, including information on the teacher workforce, school culture and pathways students take after school.

The My School website is jointly owned by the Australian Government and states and territories.
