Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, met with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nayhan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces to discuss opportunities for Australian defence exports.

“I am honoured to meet with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed to reaffirm the strength of Australia’s relationship with the UAE and to discuss how we can further build our interaction in the field of defence industry, including enhanced Australian defence exports,” Minister Pyne said.

"The Crown Prince personally visited the Team Defence Australia exhibit which illustrates the growing importance of the relationship between Australia and the United Arab Emirates, particularly in regards to defence industry," he said.

Minister Pyne is currently in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to attend the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX),—a premier event under the patronage of the President of the UAE.

This prestigious event brings together government, military and industry representatives from across the globe to share views on a range of issues and to demonstrate the latest defence technology.

“I congratulate the Crown Prince on the success of IDEX and note how important the event is to build relationships and provide a venue for showcasing world class military capabilities,” Minister Pyne said.

The Minister reaffirmed the Australian Government’s support for Australian companies and discussed opportunities for Australian industry to deliver and sustain capability for the UAE Armed Forces.
