Young South Australians and job seekers have been given an insight into careers in the growing Australian Defence industry at the Adelaide Careers and Employment Expo being held at the Adelaide Showground.

The Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today attended the Expo to speak with attendees about the diverse array of careers available in the Australian Defence Force (ADF), but also in the workforce behind the Defence Force, the Defence industry, including the Defence Science and Technology Group.

“This expo gives students and jobseekers alike the opportunity to connect with industry, employers and the education sector and discover the many career pathways available to them,” Minister Pyne said.

For the first time at a careers expo, Defence has showcased opportunities in the Australian Defence Industry alongside the more familiar opportunities of enlistment in the ADF.

“We are highlighting the realm of opportunities available to Australians in Defence, whether that is in uniform, or in Australian businesses that support the work and capabilities of the ADF to secure the nation.” Minister Pyne said.

“In South Australia, defence industry is growing rapidly as a direct result of the Australian Governments $200 billion investment in modernising our Defence Force,” he said.

As Defence’s continuous shipbuilding program and other major Defence projects ramp up over the next few years, defence industry will offer increasing numbers of job seekers rewarding long-term careers across the nation, driving employment, economic growth and innovation within our economy.

“Defence is looking for results orientated, problem solvers to join its team of high skilled technical professional,” Minister Pyne said.

“I strongly encourage school, university and TAFE students, apprentices and people looking to re-train to consider trade, technical or managerial careers in defence industry, Minister Pyne said.

“In this rapidly growing sector, the opportunities are diverse, well-paid, and long term.

The Adelaide Careers and Employment Expo will also open its doors tomorrow for job seekers.
