Labor-Greens scare campaign continues to fall apart
Once again the Labor-Greens irresponsible and reckless scare campaign has been blown out of the water with Queensland University of Technology (QUT) releasing modest fee increases under deregulation.
This morning QUT has outlined their degree fee structure under deregulation – with not a $100,000 degree in sight. The University has announced that degrees such as science and nursing would cost just over $30,000 under the Government’s reforms. Their widely respected ‘Real World’ Business-Law double degree (one of the best in the country) would be $14,272 a year for five and a half years.
QUT is one of the most in demand, young universities in the country and the fee structure that they have announced is moderate and principled.
This clearly demonstrates that Australians can trust their universities to set reasonable fees and look after students.
Students will pay around half of the cost of their course fees on average. Students won’t pay a dollar upfront for their share. Every cent can be borrowed from the taxpayer and repaid only when they start to earn over $50,000. The loan will be indexed at CPI under the Government’s new package. Additionally if the individual has a baby and is the primary care giver their loan interest will be paused for five years.
Labor and the Greens need to admit their big lie, end their irresponsible scare campaign, listen to the higher education sector and pass the Government’s reform bill in the New Year.
