Labor abandons Parliament

24 May 2011 Media release

The proceedings of the House of Representatives shut down today after the Government was unable to provide a quorum of thirty members.

Both the Constitution and Parliamentary Standing Orders require that a quorum of the House of Representatives be present in the House during proceedings.

Labor occupies the Treasury benches and if they are disinterested in even keeping the Parliament open, then we are ready and willing to move to the other side of the House and do the job for them.
