Kevin Rudd's Positivity Promise Broken

16 Aug 2013 Media release

Kevin Rudd promised ‘A New Way’, but it’s still the same old Labor. He has broken every single promise of positivity he made since the campaign began including, ordering the commencement of the kind of grubby attack ads he promised he wouldn’t do. After declaring emphatically that “Australia is too open and positive a nation to retreat into a tight little ball of negativity”, Kevin Rudd has used negativity every day as the crutch to hold up a campaign bereft of any genuine policies. All we have seen from Kevin Rudd are negative, baseless scare attacks. Kevin Rudd has woken up each day and fronted a press conference, usually at a school or child care centre, and declared that the politics of negativity is over, before launching a negative attack on the Opposition. Kevin Rudd’s cognitive dissonance is staggering. Kevin Rudd said: “Wall to wall negativity doesn’t create a single job.” Kevin Rudd has no plan to create jobs, under Labor, the number of Australians unemployed – already at the highest level in 14 years – is expected to rise to almost 800,000. Kevin Rudd said: “Negative personal politics doesn’t build a single school.” Kevin Rudd has engaged in constant negative personal politics against Tony Abbott, and he hasn’t built a single school. In fact, he announced Trades Training Centres for every high school in 2007, and delivered just 10 per cent of the commitment. This isn’t ‘A New Way’, it’s the same way – Labor don’t change, they just change leaders. Only the Coalition has a Plan to build a strong, prosperous economy and a safe, secure Australia. The Coalition offers real change and will deliver a genuinely united Government and a better future – for all Australians. 15 August 2013
