ICT investment a shot in the arm for South Australia

Investment in South Australia’s future has been strengthened today following the launch of the new Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) offices in Adelaide.

HPE’s premises were officially opened by the Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, Christopher Pyne, and the Premier for South Australia, Jay Weatherill.

“Hewlett Packard Enterprise plans to expand its presence in South Australia by over 400 jobs, adding to their existing sizable workforce,” Mr Pyne said.

“HPE has also helped support South Australia’s workforce through its ongoing collaboration with the South Australian Government and the University of South Australia to co-author a four-year ICT Honours degree, which was launched in January this year.

Mr Pyne also commended HPE for taking on its first group of seven interns in July this year as part of the company’s ongoing educational collaboration.

“We want to see more businesses working closely with our universities and science and research institutions to drive innovation. Having international technology companies like Hewlett Packard located in Australia has never been more important as we continue to build a digital economy.”

HPE was created on 1 November 2015 following the separation of Hewlett-Packard globally into two new companies. HP represents the traditional printer/laptop consumables part of the business, while the remainder of the company – HPE – includes software, data storage, analytics and cloud technology.

“Hewlett Packard has had a presence in Adelaide since 1967 and it is tremendous to see it take advantage of Adelaide’s innovative IT presence and low-cost location and invest in these new premises,” Mr Weatherill said.

“Innovation is key to transforming the State’s economy and companies like Hewlett Packard Enterprise are leading the way.
