High achievers urged to apply for overseas study and research opportunities

24 Apr 2015 Media release

High achieving Australian postgraduate students and researchers have until 30 June to apply for a once-in-a-lifetime overseas research and study opportunity as part of the 2016 Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships round.

Every year the Australian Government offers scholarships and fellowships that support Australians to undertake study and research overseas. These include:

  • Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarships — for Australian postgraduate students to undertake long-term study or research towards their Australian qualification at Masters or PhD level, in any field, overseas.
  • Endeavour Research Fellowships — for Australian postgraduate students to undertake short-term research towards their Australian qualification at Masters or PhD level, in any field, overseas. Fellowships are also available for postdoctoral fellows to undertake research overseas.

“We are committed to giving our higher education students and postdoctoral researchers the chance to excel, including the chance to build their knowledge overseas,” Mr Pyne said.

“The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships provide unique opportunities for international education placements that will give Australians an edge in the highly competitive global jobs market.

“Importantly, they will also increase the level of education and research collaboration between Australian and international higher education institutions.

“This funding complements the Australian Government’s commitment of more than $100 million for the New Colombo Plan, which is helping to foster deeper relationships with the Asia-Pacific.”

The Endeavour scholarships are also open to international students to study an Australian qualification in Australia, including at vocational education and training institutions. This is further supported by Endeavour fellowships available to international postgraduate students and researchers to undertake research in Australia.

Minister Pyne said that the Endeavour programmes and the New Colombo Plan are important parts of the Government’s strategy for promoting international educational linkages for Australia. The Draft National Strategy for International Education has recently been released and feedback is invited by 29 May.
