Gillards backyard BER bungle

29 Apr 2010 Media release

Parents at the Toolern Vale Public School in Julia Gillard's own electorate of Lalor are disappointed after receiving another transportable building in the School Hall rip-off Christopher Pyne, Shadow Minister for Education said today.

"The school has being waiting 40 years to build a non-transportable building, the only one currently is the toilet block," Mr Pyne said.

Ms Gillard herself went out to the school to announce the $850,000 BER grant saying:

"The government's $850,000 contribution will allow the school to build its first permanent building in 40 years, and this really showcases the local, grassroots benefits this program is providing to communities right across Australia.

"Now we discover the school will receive another transportable building delivered on the back of the truck," Mr Pyne said.

"So much for Ms Gillard's lofty rhetoric. Her program isn't even delivering what she promised in her own electorate," he said.

"We can chalk this up as another example of a Government that is all talk no action, only this time in Ms Gillard's backyard," he said.
