Gillard admits hundreds of inspections necessary
The Minister for Education, Julia Gillard, has admitted in Question Time today that hundreds of audits are underway at Primary School BER buildings in New South Wales, Christopher Pyne, Shadow Minister for Education said.
"If this program had been running smoothly over the past two years, why would these audits be necessary? The Minister for Education has belled the cat," Mr Pyne said.
This admission raises more questions. What exactly are these auditors investigating? The reported slap-dash work? The extraordinary inflated costs of buildings? Or is it serious safety defects from rushed work that could be endangering students and staff?
"The Minister for Education should fess up to the fact that her school halls scheme is bedevilled with problems that just won't go away by wishing them away," he said.
