Defence Invests $13.4 Million to Develop Innovative Technologies

Media release Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today visited Teledyne Defence Australia in Brisbane to announce the latest tranche of Defence Innovation Hub contracts totalling $13.4 million.
Minister Pyne said this significant investment in the Australian industry and innovation sector will ensure Defence has access to leading-edge technology.
“It will also help support a number of local jobs across Australia and continue to keep our defence industry engaged in developing the latest technologies for Australia’s defence,†he said.
The five innovation contracts announced today includes a $3.4 million contract with Teledyne Defence Australia. This project aims to develop a vehicle-mounted Improvised Explosive Device detection and clearance capability that uses an advanced radar system that could be integrated with existing ADF deployable vehicles.
The latest tranche of contracts also includes a $7.9 million contract to Daronmont Technologies in Victoria, which is the largest contract awarded by the Defence Innovation Hub since it was launched in December 2016.

Minister Pyne said the Defence Innovation Hub continues to deliver a more streamlined and agile approach to Defence investment in innovation.
“We need to ensure that we maximise opportunities for Australian industry to contribute to our capability needs,†he said.
