Australian Government budgets for a stronger infrastructure future in Sturt

04 May 2016 Media release

The electorate of Sturt is a real winner in the 2016-17 Federal Budget, with the Turnbull Government committing to funding priority infrastructure projects and supporting the local community across the electorate.

Federal Member for Sturt, the Hon Christopher Pyne said yesterday’s 2016–17 Federal Budget provides for ongoing investment in critical infrastructure and regional development to foster Australia’s success in the 21st century.

“The Australian Government is investing more than $50 billion through our Infrastructure Investment Programme, including funding projects in our community that will improve roads, create jobs and strengthen the economy,” Mr Pyne said.

“Infrastructure is a key part of the Government’s plan to create jobs and build a stronger, more prosperous Australia.

“The 2016 Budget invests in critical infrastructure designed to ease congestion in our cities, increase the capacity of our freight routes and improve safety for all road users.

The Government’s Roads to Recovery programme is providing local councils in Sturt with nearly $7 million in funding over four years, for essential road repairs and upgrades.

Mr Pyne says this funding will be vital to keep the community safe on the road, while also helping to relieve traffic congestion for commuters.

“The Roads to Recovery Programme will see many old and dangerous roads within the electorate fixed, helping to keep the local community safe and support safer and more efficient transport networks”, Mr Pyne said.
