2014 Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships
The Minister for Education, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP today announced the recipients of the Government’s Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships for 2014.
“The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships are internationally competitive scholarships which promote knowledge, education links and enduring ties between Australia and its neighbours,” Mr Pyne said.
“These scholarships will provide some 476 international recipients with an opportunity to study in Australia and around 150 Australians will be able to further their skills and knowledge overseas.”
Mr Pyne congratulated Dr Bronte Holt from the University of Sydney who was awarded the coveted Prime Minister’s Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship.
“The scholarship will enable Dr Holt to undertake postdoctoral research in the United States to improve treatment for patients with cancer,” Mr Pyne said.
“The Government understands the importance of creating opportunities for Australians to advance their education, research and professional development—be it at home or overseas.”
“That’s why the Government has announced $100 million in additional funding over five years for the New Colombo Plan.”
Mr Pyne said the plan aims to increase Australians’ knowledge of the Asia–Pacific region and strengthen ties through study and internships undertaken by undergraduate students.
“The New Colombo Plan will be supported by a partnership between governments, universities and business,” Mr Pyne said.
“It will commence in 2015, after a pilot phase in 2014 involving Japan, Indonesia, Singapore and Hong Kong.”
Applications for the 2015 Endeavour Scholarship and Fellowship round open in early April 2014 and close on 30 June 2014.
