Now not the time to shut police stations in Firle and Newton

03 Mar 2015

The Weatherill Labor Government’s plans to shut down two satellite polices stations in Firle and Newton will mean less of a police presence and less protection for people in our community.

It is concerning that at a time when the Australian Government is boosting our national security the South Australian Labor Party is closing police stations and weakening the curtain of protection across metropolitan Adelaide/

This comes on top of shutting local hospitals and emergency departments including at the Modbury Hospital that is the first port of call for many in my electorate when they need emergency care.

These cuts and closures are entirely unjustified when the Australian Government is providing more funding than ever before to South Australia, $1.8 billion more over four years or a 23 per cent increase.

The truth is State Labor have run South Australia’s finances into the ground and these closures are a consequence of their profligacy and terrible economic management.

It is disappointing residents in my electorate and across South Australia have to pay the price for Labor’s failures through reduced services.
