I am becoming increasingly concerned about the proposed mergers and sale of existing State Government facilities and the affect that this may have on our local playing fields and open public spaces.
It is vital that our local community does not lose valuable open space and playing fields to housing developments. Our present existing local sporting clubs and their facilities are in need of financial assistance to ensure that they can continue to attract membership and form strong bonds with the community to enhance social values and help keep us healthy.
Land made available from the proposed merger or sale of Government facilities, such as the proposed merger of the two campuses of Norwood/Morialta High School, the sale of Magill Training Centre and the redevelopment of Glenside Hospital should be kept as open space and monies gained be put back into the local community to upgrade existing sporting clubs, build new community facilities and increase mental health services at Glenside.
I have formulated a petition that I encourage you to obtain signatures on this important community issue so I can present it to Parliament to encourage the State Government of South Australia to develop a comprehensive policy to retain valuable open space which could be lost to new developments.
Please download the petition below and return it to my office.
